What is a Precinct?
A precinct (also called a “voting precinct” or a “voter precinct”) is the smallest political subdivision in Texas. Texas counties are divided into individual precincts that (theoretically) share communities of interest and are in all or most of the same political districts (such as legislative or congressional representatives). On an election day, each precinct usually has its own polling place where resident registered voters can go to vote; in Travis County, however, voters are allowed to vote at any polling place, not just at their precinct site.
