Jessica Cohen
County Chair

Jessica Cohen is a seasoned strategic consultant, mediator, and facilitator with a proven track record of uniting diverse groups to build long-term consensus and support for LGBTQ+ initiatives. She currently serves as Travis County Democratic Party Chair and Vice President of the Texas Democratic Party's LGBTQ Caucus, playing a vital role in shaping inclusive policies within the Democratic Party. 

Her leadership extends beyond LGBTQ+ advocacy. She has previously served as President of the Stonewall Democrats of Austin, as Vice President of the Austin Environmental Democrats, and Secretary of the Liberal Austin Democrats, demonstrating her commitment to progressive causes across multiple arenas. At the municipal level, she contributes to the City of Austin as Chair of the Board of Adjustment and as a Planning Commissioner Ex-Officio, bringing her expertise in urban development and governance to local decision-making.

In addition to her political and advocacy work, Jessica is a network security consultant specializing in finance and healthcare, where she has emerged as a strong advocate for women in STEM. Her extensive experience in cybersecurity has positioned her as a leader in protecting critical infrastructure while championing diversity in tech industries. 

Jessica’s long-standing dedication to LGBTQ+ rights has been shaped by both personal experience and public service. As a transwoman for over 25 years, she has firsthand knowledge of the challenges faced by the community, lending authenticity and depth to her advocacy. Her tenure as an officer for Stonewall Austin, Vice President for Stonewall Texas, and Texas Congressional District 35 delegate to the Democratic National Convention has provided her with invaluable experience in legislative engagement and coalition-building. Regularly testifying before the Texas Legislature, she has sharpened her advocacy skills and gained national recognition as a fierce and articulate voice for equality.

In 2018, in response to Texas’ attempt to pass an anti-transgender bathroom bill, Jessica ran for Austin City Council (District 3), focusing her campaign on pressing issues such as affordability, housing, and land use. Her bold, solutions-driven approach reflected her unwavering commitment to public service and community well-being. 

Beyond politics, Jessica is a former EMT with 12 years of service, further underscoring her dedication to helping others. With a unique blend of policy expertise, technical acumen, and grassroots activism, she continues to be a driving force in the fight for equity, representation, and progressive change across Texas.
