What is the TCDP?
TCDP is the Travis County Democratic Party, whose mission is to recruit and elect public officeholders who support our community values: freedom, equality, opportunity, security, responsibility, and justice.
To achieve these goals, we support free and fair elections, the removal of restrictions on the right to vote, the inherent right of women to be free from government interference with their personal liberty, equal justice for all minorities, economic security for our younger and older citizens, and good stewardship of our environment.
The TCDP is responsible for:
Running a Coordinated Campaign in the general election cycle every two years. The Coordinated Campaign works with the Democratic candidates’ campaigns in Travis County to unify and coordinate the efforts to contact and turn out Democratic voters;
Conducting a County Convention in the third week after the primary election to, among other things, select delegates for the state convention, and decide on resolutions to submit to the state party for shaping the party’s platform;
Enlisting Democrats to serve as clerks and judges for election polling places;
Determining the order in which candidates will appear on the primary ballots.
As a precinct chair, you are an office-holder in TCDP.
How is TCDP structured?
The party is led by the TCDP County Chair, elected in the even-year primaries. The Chair is supported by a professional staff, which includes an Executive Director and others (at various times, as needed & possible), such as office assistant, communications manager, coordinated campaign director, etc. The staff works with the CEC (see below) to conduct party business.
Please note: having paid staff for our party, even between elections, provides enormous help and continuity to Democratic efforts in Travis County and beyond. Funding staff positions is critical – being a Sustaining Member of TCDP, for as little as $10 (or more ) per month, is strongly encouraged for precinct chairs. And it feels good!
