MARK STRAMA CAMPAIGN ACADEMY
Campaign Academy brings together college and high school students to learn
the nuts and bolts of a grassroots political campaign - and to put what they
learn into practice. Following an intensive, two-day training "boot camp"
at the beginning of the program, the students become an integral part of the
campaign for the remainder of the summer, supporting all aspects of the
campaign's field, communications, fundraising, and internet strategies.
Daily lunch speakers visit with the students and provide them exposure to
every dimension of politics and government. Lunch speakers include current
and former elected officials, journalists, policy experts, academics,
political consultants, and bloggers. This summer, for the first time,
Campaign Academy will operate throughout Travis County, providing support
not only to my campaign but to the entire Democratic ticket in Travis
County.

BECOME A TCDP SUSTAINING MEMBER!
Since 2004, seven Republican-held offices within Travis County have switched
to Democrats, and now, there are only four Republicans left and one of those
was just appointed by Rick Perry last September! As you can see, the TCDP
has stepped up to make Travis County even more Democratic!
Sustaining members are our lifeblood. They are the reason that we are open
year-round (one of only five county parties in Texas that stay open
year-round), have two full-time staff members, and our work has been so
successful. We do not receive any funds from the national or state parties!
Stand with us and other Travis County residents and support TCDP by becoming
a Member. We have two levels of membership:
Sustaining: minimum of $10.00 per month or $120.00 annually.
Finance Council: minimum of $84.00 per month or $1,000.00 annually.
Members at this level receive prominent listing in our publications and web
site as well as at Travis County Democratic Party functions along with free
admission to TCDP sponsored events.
The Travis County Democratic Party is dependent on your generosity for
everything we do!
To join the Travis County Democratic Party go online to:

Fundraising BBQ Event for Rick Noriega
DATE: Sunday, May 25, 2008
TIME: 4:00pm-7:00pm
LOCATION: Home of Patti & Ray Fuentez, 8606 Navidad Dr.
CONTACT: Laura Welch at 554-5007 or laura at ricknoriega.com
Patti & Ray Fuentez invite you to a barbeque fundraiser for Rick Noriega,
candidate for U.S. Senate.
Rick is a strong candidate who will stand up for the rights of everyday
Texans. Last week two separate polls by Rasmussen Report and Research 2000
showed that Rick is just four points behind incumbent Senator John Cornyn.
In both, John Cornyn polled below 50% -- a sign of his weakness and
vulnerability this fall. This confirms that the time for change is right and
that Texas is ready. The country, the state of Texas, and our community here
in Austin will greatly benefit if Rick wins the election. It is time for
change in D.C. and we have a chance to make that change this year.
Please join in welcoming Rick Noriega and help celebrate his campaign with
BBQ, down home sides, and refreshments. Tickets are $500, $250, $100. You
may purchase tickets online through ActBlue at
http://www.actblue.com/page/fuentez_bbq or you may RSVP with Laura Welch by
phone at (512)554-5007 or via email at laura at ricknoriega.com.

Paul's wishes for a "joyous gathering" to cause "maximum offense and
irritation to right-wingers, bigots, fundamentalists and their retrograde
fellow travelers", there will be a potluck held in his honor.

Program: The Hispanic Vote in Texas: Present and Future
For several years, Democrats and Republicans have predicted an impending
fundamental change in the demographics and electorate in Texas. In part,
that is premised upon the increased importance of the growing Hispanic vote.
When will that occur? 2008? 2010? 2012? How will it change the Democratic v.
Republican electoral split?
We have wonderful, learned speakers to enlighten us on these issues: . Lydia
Camarillo - Vice President, Southwest Voter Registration Education Project.
Lydia is one of the foremost national experts on this topic.
. James Aldrete - James has been called "the leading expert on Hispanic
media among the Democratic consultants in the state," and of course James
has worked on many Democratic campaigns, both statewide and locally.
Please join us for an informative and important program.
Super-Spectacular Door Prizes:
1. Clinton/Obama campaign items.
2. More we're-not-fond-of-Bush buttons.
3. Red Wassenich's book, Keep Austin Weird - an Austin best seller.

TO SUBSCRIBERS WHO USE AOL
AOL has become increasingly difficult for independent Internet services and
presence providers like ours to work with. The AOL mail user interface has
a "Report Spam" button immediately adjacent to the "Delete" button, and not
only does this make it hard for many inexperienced (and elderly) users to
avoid hitting the "Report Spam" button, but AOL apparently makes little or
no attempt to educate its user base on distinguishing between spam and
legitimate list posts to which they have subscribed but may not wish to
read.
AOL tracks each "Report Spam" it receives from subscribers. If they receive
too many complaints from our service, email will be subject to substantial
acceptance delays or rejection by AOL's mail servers.
Each time an AOL user hits the "Report Spam" button on a post from a list
hosted by our web host, we receive a "Client TOS Notification" from AOL. If
this happens, you will be automatically unsubscribed from the list.
You are free to re-subscribe your address to our lists; however, if you
chose to do so, please take the time to use caution or obtain an email
address, such as a gmail address, from a different provider. Please be
careful when deleting messages.
