MESSAGE FROM TCDP CHAIR CHRIS ELLIOTT

Dear Fellow Democrats:

As we all decompress from the incredible experience that was the 2008 Texas
Primary, I hope everyone can appreciate what an extraordinary happening it
truly was. Whether you are a Clinton or Obama supporter, or support one of
the other candidates that appeared on the Primary ballot, you had to admire
the passion and dedication that was on display Tuesday night. I have not
seen the likes of it in my lifetime, and may not again.

Before I go further, I want to issue some heartfelt thanks - to the staff
and all of the volunteers at TCDP who worked countless hours preparing for
the Primary, to the folks at the Elections Division of the County Clerk's
office (and to Dana DeBeauvoir herself), and to all of our election judges
and precinct chairs who worked long into the night. Thanks to all of you
for jobs well done and for your dedication to Democrats and democracy.

With that said, TCDP has received over the past few days a number of reports
from precinct convention attendees who did not have positive experiences at
their caucuses. The issues have ranged from long lines and lack of
sufficient sign in sheets to overzealous campaign staffers trying to control
the proceedings. We regret that these problems occurred but are confident,
based on the reports we are getting, that only a few precincts experienced
these kinds of problems and that the vast majority of the caucuses were
conducted in orderly, civilized fashions.

I believe that TCDP went overboard in trying to provide information and
training to anyone that was receptive to it in order to prepare our folks
for the onslaught that, for about the past three to four weeks, we knew was
coming. We wish that we could have had sufficient staffing to monitor all
210 precinct conventions, but, alas, with four paid staff people (two being
part time), such was impossible. Nonetheless, I am as proud as I can be of
TCDP staff - Elizabeth Yevich, Garry Brown, Lei Lani De Santiago and Sarah
Mobley Schattmann, for all of their hard work and dedication to seeing that
this process went as smoothly as possible. Were there some hiccups? Of
course, and we hope to learn from them and have an even better system in the
future. But, for now, I am proud of our efforts and, for the most part, the
results.

For those of you that had a negative experience Tuesday night, I am truly
sorry. As I analyze the reports we are getting about the difficulties
experienced by some, my conclusions are that the sheer numbers of people
turning out at the caucuses combined with the high emotions brought on by
the level of importance attached to them by the campaigns (and the
campaigns' lack of familiarity with the Texas process) resulted in more
tension and disagreement in some places than there should have been. But we
are taking notes and learning, be assured of that.

Amidst all of this, let us remember that no matter what disagreements the
two camps had on March 4, we all have the same goal in mind.a Democratic
president in 2009 and beyond. And we are so very close to achieving that
goal.so when tensions start running high and you are thinking that the
Clinton or Obama supporter that you are arguing with can't get any uglier or
any more stupid, remember the goal and remember who the real opposition is.
Does anyone really want to wake up after election day in November and be
faced with the prospect of President McCain?

Thanks to all of you for being Democrats and being supportive of TCDP. We
look forward to your continued support.

Democratically yours,

Chris Elliott

Chair, TCDP

VOLUNTEERS AND FOOD NEEDED

For the County Convention on March 28 to be successful, we need many, at
least 100, volunteers.

To volunteer for the county convention, please contact TCDP Primary Election
Assistant, Lei Lani De Santiago at leilani at traviscountydemocrats.org

The TCDP staff is working so hard around the clock that it is difficult to
even leave the office due to the number of visitors, calls and emails. Any
donation of food and drink will be gratefully accepted.

BECOME A TCDP SUSTAINING MEMBER!

Since 2004, seven Republican-held offices within Travis County have switched
to Democrats, and now, there are only four Republicans left and one of those
was just appointed by Rick Perry last September! As you can see, the TCDP
has stepped up to make Travis County even more Democratic!

Sustaining members are our lifeblood. They are the reason that we are open
year-round (one of only five county parties in Texas that stay open
year-round), have two full-time staff members, and our work has been so
successful. We do not receive any funds from the national or state parties!

Stand with us and other Travis County residents and support TCDP by becoming
a Member. We have two levels of membership:

Sustaining: minimum of $10.00 per month or $120.00 annually.

Finance Council: minimum of $84.00 per month or $1,000.00 annually.
Members at this level receive prominent listing in our publications and web
site as well as at Travis County Democratic Party functions along with free
admission to TCDP sponsored events.

The Travis County Democratic Party is dependent on your generosity for
everything we do!

TO SUBSCRIBERS WHO USE AOL

AOL has become increasingly difficult for independent Internet services and
presence providers like ours to work with. The AOL mail user interface has
a "Report Spam" button immediately adjacent to the "Delete" button, and not
only does this make it hard for many inexperienced (and elderly) users to
avoid hitting the "Report Spam" button, but AOL apparently makes little or
no attempt to educate its user base on distinguishing between spam and
legitimate list posts to which they have subscribed but may not wish to
read.

AOL tracks each "Report Spam" it receives from subscribers. If they receive
too many complaints from our service, email will be subject to substantial
acceptance delays or rejection by AOL's mail servers.

Each time an AOL user hits the "Report Spam" button on a post from a list
hosted by our web host, we receive a "Client TOS Notification" from AOL. If
this happens, you will be automatically unsubscribed from the list.

You are free to re-subscribe your address to our lists; however, if you
chose to do so, please take the time to use caution or obtain an email
address, such as a gmail address, from a different provider. Please be
careful when deleting messages.
