MESSAGE FROM TCDP CHAIR CHRIS ELLIOTT

Dear Fellow Democrats:

With almost a week to reflect on the experience that was the 2008 SD 14 and

25 Conventions, one word still continually comes to mind first -
"unbelievable." What an unbelievable turnout, what an unbelievable event
for Democrats in Travis County, and what an unbelievable day for those who
participated. As I stated during the conventions, we were part of history.

We may never again in our lifetimes experience another gathering of
Democrats in this county equal to what took place last Saturday. Savor the
experience and don't forget what that energy and excitement felt like. I
know I won't.

Was it all silky smooth? No, of course not. There were long lines to get
into the Expo Center and long lines to sign in and I know these issues
created frustration amongst the participants. These issues were a result of
the sheer volume of people that chose to participate on Saturday and, quite
frankly, I don't know how these problems could have been avoided, given
those numbers. We, TCDP, did the best we could and I am as proud as I can
be of my staff and all of the volunteers that gave of their time to make
this event happen. It was truly a herculean task.

Something that has become very clear to me since Saturday is that we had
wonderful conventions compared to many of the other urban counties in Texas.

I have read many accounts of happenings in other counties that make me so
proud of how our conventions were conducted and I realize that this is due
not only to TCDP staff and volunteers, but to you folks, the participants.

That we were able to complete our business with as little rancor and
dissention as we had is a tribute to the character of Travis County
Democrats. And after having served as your chair for the past four years, I
can honestly say that I am not surprised. Over the course of those four
years, I have continually been amazed at the way Travis County Democrats put
aside their differences on candidates or issues and come together for the
common good. That was never more on display than last Saturday. I have
said it many times and it bears repeating - I have the best job, by far, of
any County Chair in Texas.

Since Saturday, we have received many, many emails and voicemail messages at
TCDP regarding your experiences at the conventions. I am happy to report
that the positive messages outweigh the negative ones by 10 to 1. We have
heard from first time conventions goers that the experience energized them
and motivated them to stay involved. We have heard from "old pros" who
report that they have never seen that much energy and excitement among
Democrats in Travis County. All of that is music to my ears and further
confirms what has been obvious to me for about four or five months now - we
Democrats in Texas are well on our way to taking back control of this state.

While Travis County had probably the largest turnout of any county in Texas
last Saturday, almost every part of the state experienced record turnouts
for their conventions. We may not wrest control of state government from
the Republicans in this election or even the next, but if we continue what
was on display last Saturday, it won't be long.

Thank you Travis County Democrats for an "unbelievable" experience at the

2008 SD 14 and 25 conventions. I am proud to be your Chair.

Democratically yours

Chris Elliott, TCDP Chair

BECOME A TCDP SUSTAINING MEMBER!

Since 2004, seven Republican-held offices within Travis County have switched
to Democrats, and now, there are only four Republicans left and one of those
was just appointed by Rick Perry last September! As you can see, the TCDP
has stepped up to make Travis County even more Democratic!

Sustaining members are our lifeblood. They are the reason that we are open
year-round (one of only five county parties in Texas that stay open
year-round), have two full-time staff members, and our work has been so
successful. We do not receive any funds from the national or state parties!

Stand with us and other Travis County residents and support TCDP by becoming
a Member. We have two levels of membership:

Sustaining: minimum of $10.00 per month or $120.00 annually.

Finance Council: minimum of $84.00 per month or $1,000.00 annually.
Members at this level receive prominent listing in our publications and web
site as well as at Travis County Democratic Party functions along with free
admission to TCDP sponsored events.

TO SUBSCRIBERS WHO USE AOL

AOL has become increasingly difficult for independent Internet services and
presence providers like ours to work with. The AOL mail user interface has
a "Report Spam" button immediately adjacent to the "Delete" button, and not
only does this make it hard for many inexperienced (and elderly) users to
avoid hitting the "Report Spam" button, but AOL apparently makes little or
no attempt to educate its user base on distinguishing between spam and
legitimate list posts to which they have subscribed but may not wish to
read.

AOL tracks each "Report Spam" it receives from subscribers. If they receive
too many complaints from our service, email will be subject to substantial
acceptance delays or rejection by AOL's mail servers.

Each time an AOL user hits the "Report Spam" button on a post from a list
hosted by our web host, we receive a "Client TOS Notification" from AOL. If
this happens, you will be automatically unsubscribed from the list.

You are free to re-subscribe your address to our lists; however, if you
chose to do so, please take the time to use caution or obtain an email
address, such as a gmail address, from a different provider. Please be
careful when deleting messages.
