MESSAGE FROM TCDP CHAIR CHRIS ELLIOTT

Dear Fellow Democrats:

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving
one week in advance, since there will not be a newsletter next week.

We certainly have much to be thankful for in Travis County. We live in a
beautiful, progressive community that, despite some problems, remains the
crown jewel of Texas. Is there really any other place you would rather
live? Especially on a beautiful, crisp Fall day like today (enjoy while it
lasts.).

As a Democrat, especially as County Chair, I think almost every day how
thankful I am to live here. I have the most enviable job of any county
chair in Texas, by far. The support that is provided by Democratic
activists here is unparalleled in any other community in this state. And
for that, I want to, once again, thank all of you. What you do day in and
day out to promote our party and its ideals makes my job, and Elizabeth's
and Garry's, much easier.

Have a wonderful, safe Thanksgiving Holiday!

Democratically yours,

Chris Elliott

Chair, Travis County Democratic Party

************************************************************************

ATTENTION ALL POTENTIAL CANDIDATES- FILING BEGINS MONDAY, DECEMBER 3!!!

To become a candidate on the March 4, 2008 Democratic Primary ballot, you
must file in one of two ways: by fee or by petition. To see a chart of fees
and petition requirements, please click the following link:

http://www.sos.state.tx.us/elections/candidates/guide/demorrep.shtml

For offices whose districts are wholly contained within Travis County, the
potential candidate must file with the Travis County Democratic Party (TCDP)
office at 1311 E. 6th St. TCDP has the filing form at the office and we
notarize it for you.

Multi-county district offices, statewide office, or federal office
candidates must file with the Texas Democratic Party (TDP) at 505 W. 12th
St., Suite 200.

TCDP Staff: 477-7500 or info at traviscountydemocrats.org

TDP Staff: 478-9800

If you are a candidate and you will file with the TCDP, the following are
some general guidelines that we strongly suggest:

1. Please turn in your petition, in its entirety, as early as you
can following the start of the filing period on Monday December 3rd, 2007 to
the Travis County Democratic Party. Our staff is required to verify each
signature up to the minimum amount needed for you to become a candidate.
Turnover to verify a standard petition takes approximately three days to
complete. Our staff will notify you upon completion of verifying every
signature on your petition for accuracy. If it is determined that there are
not enough valid signatures before the deadline, we will notify your office
and you may submit more signatures. However, you run the risk that our
staff may be verifying other candidates petitions and not have ample time to
work further on yours. If it is determined that there are not enough valid
signatures after the January, 2nd deadline, your petition will not be
accepted and in turn, you will not be a candidate on the March Primary
ballot.

Additionally, if your petition is presented to our office during the final
days before filing ends on Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008, our staff may not
have adequate time to verify all the signatures depending upon how many
others are also filing by petition at that time. If that is the case, then
you will not be a candidate on the March Primary ballot.

2. Due to state law, a candidate may not file with both a check and
a petition. Once a check is presented for filing, the candidate files with
that check. A check may not presented with a petition to be used as backup
in case there are not enough valid signatures. (Secretary of State,
Elections Division, October 2007 Election Law Seminar, page 10)

3. Please review the TCDP online web calendar for times around the
holidays that our office will be closed so that you can plan accordingly.
You may view the upcoming months here:
http://www.traviscountydemocrats.org/calendar.php?month=12
<http://www.traviscountydemocrats.org/calendar.php?month=12&year=2007>
&year=2007

************************************************************************

PRECINCT CHAIR FILINGS CONTINUE!

Are you interested in becoming a precinct chair? The position has potential
rewards, such as being in a leadership position that comes with a title and
some visibility, venues for camaraderie, opportunities to influence the
process, to go to county and state conventions or even beyond, and an outlet
for your creativity and energy. The office of precinct chair is an elected
two-year position for the term 2008 - 2010.

For all current precinct chairs and anyone considering becoming a new
precinct chair, filing in the upcoming March Primary for the office of
Democratic Precinct Chair has already begun; for all other offices, filing
does not begin until December 3. Filing ends for all offices on Wednesday,
January 2nd 2008.

If you are planning to run again or run for the first time, you must file
with the TCDP. We have the form here so you do not need to do anything
before hand. The process will take a mere 5 - 10 minutes. TCDP staff
notarizes your form at the time of filing. There is no fee to file for the
office of precinct chair.

Reminder: All current chairs must re-file every two years if they wish to
continue to hold the office!

TCDP will accept filing forms during regular business hours, 9:00 a.m. -
5:00 p.m. Monday - Friday but we would ask that you call first just to make
sure that either Elizabeth or Garry are in: 477-7500. Thank you!

BECOME A TCDP SUSTAINING MEMBER!

Since 2004, seven Republican-held offices within Travis County have switched
to Democrats, and now, there are only four Republicans left and one of those
was just appointed by Rick Perry last September! As you can see, the TCDP
has stepped up to make Travis County even more Democratic!

Sustaining members are our lifeblood. They are the reason that we are open
year-round (one of only five county parties in Texas), have two staff
members, and our work has been so successful. We do not receive any funds
from the national or state parties!

Stand with us and other Travis County residents and support TCDP by becoming
a Member. We have two levels of membership:

Sustaining: minimum of $10.00 per month or $120.00 annually.

Finance Council: minimum of $84.00 per month or $1000.00 annually. Members
at this level receive prominent listing in our publications and web site as
well as at Travis County Democratic Party functions along with free
admission to TCDP sponsored events.

CONTACT: Sabas Avila at sabas at latinosfortexas.com

Please join Latinos for Texas for their monthly meetup. The LFT meetup for

details of the December endorsement meeting. (And don't worry, tacos and
margaritas are still available )

AGENDA
1. Meet new Candidates. (20 minutes)
Any new candidates who have yet to attend an LFT meeting and who wish to
introduce herself or himself is invited to say few words about their
candidacy. The familiar faces are welcome, of course, but we'll give a
slight priority to the new folks.

2. Announcements, Issues, Ideas. (10 minutes)
LFT and Community members are invited to say a few words regarding new or
upcoming community projects, events, efforts, or ideas.

3. 10 Minute Break (10 minutes)

4. Closed Session. (45-60 minutes)
The membership will be finalizing the endorsement process for the December
meetup, prioritizing and finalizing Candidate questionnaire, and a few other
details. (Please Note - This session will be open to all members who have
paid, or will pay the membership fee with exception of members who are also
candidates in the March 2008 election).

As always, it should be quite a good discussion, and a great chance to meet
both activists and candidates.

(2) County Chair
(3) County Court at Law No. 8

1. Maybe/Perhaps/Contingent DA candidates: Iconic Ronnie Earle has said that

Perhaps. Unless Ronnie announces in the interim that he'll run again.

2. County Chair candidates: What is the most important office in the Western
World? Not President, of course, but Travis County Democratic Party Chair.
Two candidates now appear to be in the race: Fidel "Ace" Acevedo and Andy
Brown. (Rosie Mendoza had announced as a candidate earlier, but more
recently has indicated that, in the interest of Party unity, she will
withdraw from the race. All Democrats (and potential contributors), of
course, owe her a debt of thanks for her efforts and her altruism.)

See the candidates' websites:

3. County Court at Law No. 8: This newly created court has two announced

TO SUBSCRIBERS WHO USE AOL

AOL has become increasingly difficult for independent Internet services and
presence providers like ours to work with. The AOL mail user interface has
a "Report Spam" button immediately adjacent to the "Delete" button, and not
only does this make it hard for many inexperienced (and elderly) users to
avoid hitting the "Report Spam" button, but AOL apparently makes little or
no attempt to educate its user base on distinguishing between spam and
legitimate list posts to which they have subscribed but may not wish to
read.

AOL tracks each "Report Spam" it receives from subscribers. If they receive
too many complaints from our service, email will be subject to substantial
acceptance delays or rejection by AOL's mail servers.

Each time an AOL user hits the "Report Spam" button on a post from a list
hosted by our web host, we receive a "Client TOS Notification" from AOL. If
this happens, you will be automatically unsubscribed from the list.

You are free to re-subscribe your address to our lists; however, if you
chose to do so, please take the time to use caution or obtain an email
address, such as a gmail address, from a different provider. Please be
careful when deleting messages.
