A MESSAGE FROM TCDP CHAIR, CHRIS ELLIOTT
Dear Fellow Democrats:
Garry, Elizabeth and I are looking forward to seeing everyone at our April
10 fundraiser where we will honor our Travis County legislative delegation.
It will be a fun evening at the wonderful, downtown home of Dennis Karbach
and Robert Brown, who have graciously agreed to open their Congress Avenue
abode to their fellow Travis County Democrats. It is especially helpful
that they have agreed to do so as this location makes it so easy for our
honorees, and other legislators, to stroll down from the Capitol to attend.
A mighty thanks, once again, to Dennis and Robert.
We have had a great response so far to our requests for sponsorships to this
event. But we still have a ways to go to meet our goal of raising enough
money to keep our doors open through the summer and into the fall. I may be
calling many of you in the next week or two to ask for help and if you are
reading this you should have received one or more emails about this event.
If you have not already done so, please consider a sponsorship at the
highest level you can afford. I promise you we will put it to good use.
On other fronts, it is a good time to be a Democrat. Legislators in Austin
(Democrat AND Republican) are standing up to the past bullying ways of House
Speaker Tom Craddick and Gov. Rick Perry and, according to inside sources,
are even working to “undo” some of the damage done in recent sessions by the
overreaching R’s. Nationally, there has been much news about subpoenas and
such and having Karl Rove testify under oath about the U.S. Attorneys matter
and his role in it. I laugh every time I hear the Bush Administration’s
response, i.e. that they will let the investigating committee interview his
people “in private, with no recording and not under oath.” Like that offer
is supposed to mollify everyone’s concerns about getting a straight story
about all of this? Are you kidding me? With this Administration’s track
record of lying, I would think we’d have to make them take three or four
oaths to even begin to get the truth. But, I do hope that Democrats in
Congress use the subpoena power judiciously and do not overreach with their
new power.
Thanks to you all for what you do and I hope to see you on April 10!
Democratically yours,
Chris Elliott
TCDP Chair

TO SUBSCRIBERS WHO USE AOL
AOL has become increasingly difficult for independent Internet services and
presence providers like ours to work with. The AOL mail user interface has
a "Report Spam" button immediately adjacent to the "Delete" button, and not
only does this make it hard for many inexperienced (and elderly) users to
avoid hitting the "Report Spam" button, but AOL apparently makes little or
no attempt to educate its user base on distinguishing between spam and
legitimate list posts to which they have subscribed but may not wish to
read.
AOL tracks each "Report Spam" it receives from subscribers. If they receive
too many complaints from our service, email will be subject to substantial
acceptance delays or rejection by AOL's mail servers.
Each time an AOL user hits the "Report Spam" button on a post from a list
hosted by our web host, we receive a "Client TOS Notification" from AOL. If
this happens, you will be automatically unsubscribed from the list.
You are free to re-subscribe your address to our lists; however, if you
chose to do so, please take the time to use caution or obtain an email
address, such as a gmail address, from a different provider. Please be
careful when deleting messages.
