CAN YOU WORK 3-5 ELECTIONS OVER THE NEXT YEAR?

The most important item at the TCDP right now is to submit a comprehensive
list of term-appointed Presiding Judges (a.k.a. Election Judges, the folks
who work at your polling locations on Election Day) for a one-year term,
August 1, 2007 - July 31, 2008. There will be approximately 3-5 elections
during this one year term depending upon where you live and whether there
will be any run-off elections.

You must live in the precinct in which you work and you will be asked to
work every election that is determined for your precinct. This means
working the March party primary yet also includes elections for city
council, independent school district boards, Austin Community College board,
bond and state constitutional elections, etc. In short, you will represent
the Travis County Democratic Party at party primaries, but you are expected
to work, if possible, each and every election. Pay for the primary is set
by the Texas Secretary of State. Currently the hourly rate for the 2008
Primary is $7.00/hour. All other election pay is $10/hour for
presiding/alternate judges.

TCDP is now putting together a supplemental term-appointed list that can be
submitted to the County Commissioners' no later than October because of the
state constitutional election on November 6, 2007. We currently have 78
positions filled but we need 215 total. In other words, we are at 36% of
having these spots filled but we would certainly like to achieve over 50% if
not 100%.

And here is another reason to keep in mind why we need folks to sign up to
be a Presiding Judge:

If we do not find people to work these polling locations and the county
election folks have to help us recruit judges, the TCDP will be charged a
hefty fee. For the 2006 Primary, the TCDP was charged more for this service
than the Travis County Republican Party. We simply do not want that to
happen again. We are sure that you would agree that the TCDP should spend
more of its money reaching Democratic voters than recruiting judges during
January and February of next year!

Election Judges are needed in the following precincts:

106 107 110 111 112 113 123 132 137 140 141 145 150 153 154

Since 2004, seven Republican-held offices within Travis County have switched
to Democrats, and now, there are only three Republicans left! As you can
see, the TCDP has stepped up to make Travis County even more Democratic!

Sustaining members are our lifeblood. They are the reason that we are open
year-round (one of the five county parties in Texas), have two staff
members, and our work has been so successful. We do not receive any funds
from the national or state parties!

Stand with us and other Travis County residents and support TCDP by becoming
a Member. We have two levels of membership:

Sustaining: minimum of $10.00 per month or $120.00 annually.

Finance Council: minimum of $84.00 per month or $1000.00 annually. Members

well as at Travis County Democratic Party functions along with free
admission to TCDP sponsored events.

The Travis County Democratic Party is dependent on your generosity for
everything we do!

Susan Shelton, current precinct chair of pct. #160 who became a member in

THE EXCITEMENT IS BUILDING!!!

Can you feel it? Everyday brings another scandal coming out of Washington,
but everyday brings us closer to the end of the most corrupt Presidential
Administration in history. Everyday brings us closer to a time when we can
continue the change started last year by taking over Congress. Everyday
brings us closer to the moment that we can reiterate our strong statement of
electing a 100% Democratic legislative delegation and Travis County
judiciary.

Democrats in Texas already have two very credible candidates, and possibly
more, for the United States Senate. Travis County, as usual, will be
counted upon to place our senatorial candidate in a position to win.

What can you do to help build this excitement?

The strongest impact you can make is by becoming a Precinct Chair! We only
have 46 vacancies left out of 210 precinct chair positions!

Make your voice heard in how your county party is run! All Democratic
Precinct Chairs in Travis County automatically become members of the County
Executive Committee, which is the governing body for Travis County
Democratic Party. In addition, you'll receive all the support you need to
turn out the Democrats to vote in your neighborhood. There is so much to do
to get ready for 2008. The excitement is building. Come be a part of it!

Interested? Want to learn more? Contact Garry Brown at TCDP at
garry at traviscountydemocrats.org.

Below is a list of precincts where we have vacancies. The precinct numbers
are divided by legislative district.

If your State House Representative is Dawnna Dukes, District 46

TO SUBSCRIBERS WHO USE AOL

AOL has become increasingly difficult for independent Internet services and
presence providers like ours to work with. The AOL mail user interface has
a "Report Spam" button immediately adjacent to the "Delete" button, and not
only does this make it hard for many inexperienced (and elderly) users to
avoid hitting the "Report Spam" button, but AOL apparently makes little or
no attempt to educate its user base on distinguishing between spam and
legitimate list posts to which they have subscribed but may not wish to
read.

AOL tracks each "Report Spam" it receives from subscribers. If they receive
too many complaints from our service, email will be subject to substantial
acceptance delays or rejection by AOL's mail servers.

Each time an AOL user hits the "Report Spam" button on a post from a list
hosted by our web host, we receive a "Client TOS Notification" from AOL. If
this happens, you will be automatically unsubscribed from the list.

You are free to re-subscribe your address to our lists; however, if you
chose to do so, please take the time to use caution or obtain an email
address, such as a gmail address, from a different provider. Please be
careful when deleting messages.
