[Tcdp_events] MANY Volunteers Needed Tomorrow (Friday) andSaturday for County Convention!!!!

The Travis County Democrative Party Convention is fast approaching us and this Saturday, March 29, 2008, we are hosting the largest Democratic County Convention in our history.  In an effort to make this year's County Convention the best that we have ever had, the staff here at TCDP are reaching out to you in the hopes you will volunteer your time. 
 

        In order to make the convention run smoothly and efficiently we need over 150 volunteers ALL DAY on March 28 AND ALL DAY March 29.  We are asking you to please reach out to your members and forward them this email. The volunteer opportunity is open to every one of all ages and presidential preferences and I have included the relevant details below.

 

Volunteers for Friday we just need you to show up at the Travis County Exposition center!  We will be there from noon on putting up 1,850 chairs and 60 tables and putting up the 210 precinct signs.

 

On Saturday, we need a 60 people to help with our 22 sign-in windows on Saturday morning.  We can't stress how important it is that we have enough folks work sign-in!!!  If you can work the sign in window, please phone Lei Lani De Santiago at (512) 689-6002.

Details for Friday: 

 

Arrive between 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM. (or later ---- any extra hands during any part of the day will be appreciated).  We will be meeting at the Travis County Exposition Center, Luedecke Arena (7311 Decker Lane Austin, Texas 78724). Enter through GATE 1 and then just come into the arena. You will not have to pay for parking. Plan on being there as long as you can, preferably until 6:00 PM at least and please pack a lunch as concessions will not be open. Wear comfortable clothing and comfortable shoes.. We will be setting up chairs, tables and making signs. If you would like bring gloves, Clorox wipes or anything else you might feel we could use setting up for tomorrow (i.e. tools and such).

 

Details for Saturday: 

 

Arrival is at 6:00 AM!! (6:30 at the absolute latest as we will need to go over a few things with you before hand about the sign-in procedures).  We will be meeting at the Travis County Exposition Center, Luedecke Arena (7311 Decker Lane Austin, Texas 78724). Enter through GATE 2 and then just come into the arena. I will be there to check you in and give you your day's assigned area. Paid parking only begins after 7:00 a.m.  Plan on being there all day (until at least 8:00 PM) as the convention may go longer than expected. 

 

We definitely need 44 people (we have 22 windows and will be working in teams of two) to help man the main ticket windows to help with the sign in process of Delegates and we also need another 20 people to help with the signing in of Alternates and various other early morning duties. We hope to complete the sign in process by 11:00 AM at the latest.  If you can work one of the ticket windows, PLEASE phone Lei Lani at 689-6002.  



********The Precinct Caucuses are not scheduled until 12:30 .......... and the caucuses can't begin until the delegates (still standing in line at 10:00) are all signed in so yes, if you are a delegate or an alternate, you can work a sign-in window.  However, if you are the Delegation Chair you should not work a sign in window as you will be busy with other precinct duties. 

 

We will have water on hand for everyone and the concession stand is open 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.  Please wear comfortable shoes, as you will be on your feet all day,  The Travis County Democratic Party has purchased yellow t-shirts for all the volunteers to wear. So once you arrive and check in with me for your volunteer assignment you will need to change into your volunteer shirt and wear it all day long.

 

I am including me cell phone number so please feel free to call me on this on Friday as I will not be in the office as all TCDP will be out at the Expo Ctr all day Friday.
