TRAVIS COUNTY DEMOCRATIC PARTY

LAUNCHES 2006 COORDINATED CAMPAIGN

TRUE BLUE TRAVIS


Austin, September 8 - This Sunday, the Travis County Democratic Party (TCDP) kicks off the election season with a rally to promote its 2006 coordinated campaign called True Blue Travis.  The party starts at 1:00pm in the heart of East Austin at Plaza Saltillo and ends at 3:00pm.  Statewide candidates Chris Bell, Democratic nominee for Texas Governor, Hank Gilbert, Democratic nominee for Texas Agriculture Commissioner, VaLinda Hathcox, Democratic nominee for Texas Land Commissioner, along with Congressman Lloyd Doggett will be in attendance with many other local Democratic candidates and elected officials.  State Representative Senfronia Thompson, serving her 34th year in the Texas House of Representatives from Houston and current candidate for Speaker of the House will also be a special guest and featured speaker.

 

As one of the strongest Democratic counties in Texas, Travis County is poised to become even more Democratic.  Already this year, the lone Republican District Judge in the county switched to the Democrats and the Republican candidate for District 48 of the Texas House of Representatives, having already lost a special election, withdrew from the race.  The TCDP coordinated campaign works on behalf of all Democratic candidates, from statewide and multi-county districts to local countywide races.  Chris Elliott, Chair of the Travis County Democratic Party, said, "We are looking to build upon our success in recent elections and this event is designed to rally local Democrats around our candidates.  We hope to have a large turnout."

 

The rally is free and open to the public.  All Democrats are encouraged to attend.

The Travis County GOP is holding their campaign kickoff later in the day AND they are charging folks $5.00 to get into their event.  They are calling their kickoff the "No Blue Dot Campaign."  They are also claiming that they will kick the liberals out of downtown.  Come on out and let's show the few Republicans in Travis County how strong a Party we are!
