Juneteenth 2017

Happy Juneteenth! I would like to thank everyone for coming out to the Juneteenth Parade and Celebration this past Saturday! As always, it was an amazing day celebrating with the community and all of the families.

Juneteenth commemorates the day in 1865 when certain Texans first received news of the Emancipation Proclamation. As recent events have sent America and Texas backwards, we should encourage ourselves by remembering the struggles that we have overcome in the past and continue working. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “No work is insignificant. All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence.”

With attacks on human dignity by Trump and Abbott, we cannot afford to be divided or have people sit on the sidelines. Now is the time for everyone to be involved in some capacity to help move our community forward. Let’s keep marching forward.
