William McKenzie: Austin finally has chance to fund Texas water plan
Austin, TX - A pastor beseeched the Lord during his opening prayer last Wednesday in the Texas Senate to let rain fall down upon our state. The fact that he petitioned for rain shows the great extent to which water has seeped into the state’s consciousness. Not only are we praying for rain, but legislators are finally discussing how to fund Texas’ 50-year water plan.
Only recently have these issues moved beyond the engineers, planners and hydrologists who pay attention to Texas’ needs. Before this legislative session, most lawmakers couldn’t talk much about water challenges, much less how to meet them.
