Message from the Chair:

Jan Soifer, TCDP Chair

Time for holiday cheer and charity!

November 26th, 2012

Fellow Democrats,

I hope you will join the Travis County Democratic Party, the Capital Area Progressive Democrats, South Austin Democrats and North by Northwest Austin Democrats for our Holiday Party on December 4th at the AFL-CIO. As it has in the past, our celebration will include a charity drive to benefit the Trinity Center, which helps our downtown homeless neighbors.

Here is Trinity Center’s wish list:

*Jackets and sweaters (L and XL)

*Warm knit hats, gloves and socks

*Small blankets and new or gently used sleeping bags

If you don’t have time to shop, just make out a check to Trinity Center. Donations are tax-deductible, and small amounts go a very long way! Gifts can be dropped off at the TCDP office (1311 E. Sixth Street) or brought to the party.

As we celebrate the season (and a very successful election!), Democrats traditionally reach out to help those who are less fortunate, and Austin’s growing homeless population desperately needs our assistance this winter.

What makes Trinity Center special? A relative lack of bureaucracy, a sense of community and lots of respect. Check out our interview with Trinity Center’s operations coordinator, Austin native Annie Bryant, in today’s “On the Record with Diane Holloway” for further inspiration.

Located at 7th and Trinity Streets, Trinity Center is a small-budget charity that was launched with funds from the Barbara Jordan Foundation and with guidance from longtime Democratic activists Diana and Doug Bell. Trinity provides breakfast, clothing, computer training, counseling, social services and other basic services to thousands of Austin’s downtown homeless. People can use the Center as their mailing address and have access to email and phones. In response to the brutal murders of several homeless women this year, Trinity recently spearheaded a rotating venue among several downtown locations to host 50 women for “safe sleep” each night.

Please mark your calendars today for our December 4th holiday party and help us reach out to people who need us the most.

Sincerely,

Andy Brown

Travis County Democratic Party Chair
