Now that we have survived the lies and distortions of the Republican Convention, it’s time to look ahead and celebrate Democrats locally and nationally.
Tonight (Tuesday) San Antonio Mayor Julián Castro delivers the keynote address at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte. Please come to our DNC Keynote Watch Party, starting at 7 p.m. at Campaign Headquarters (2406 Manor Rd.). We’ll have food, phone banking and Mayor Castro’s speech. (Our Convention concludes with President Obama’s sure-to-be-inspiring address Thursday night.)
With federal courts blocking both the Texas Legislature’s super-partisan redistricting maps and the regressive Texas Voter ID Law last week, we have much to celebrate. I can’t think of a better way to do that than honoring the progressive legacy of one of our own on September 18th with The Senator Ralph Yarborough Judicial Retirement Celebration — this year toasting Judge Mike Lynch.
Our distinguished roasters include Steve Brittain, Gary Cobb, the Honorable John Dietz, the Honorable Ken Oden, David Sheppard and the Honorable Jon Wisser.
We will also recognize the important work of our Democratic justices on the Third Court of Appeals — Chief Justice Woodie Jones and Justice Diane Henson.
Serving two decades on the 167th District Court, Judge Lynch is a dedicated public servant and loyal Democrat. We want to thank him for his service and wish him well in his retirement. Be sure to read our interview with him in today’s “On the Record with Diane Holloway.” And click here to buy your tickets for the celebration before they’re all gone!
The proceeds from this fundraising event will help fund our Coordinated Campaign so that we can educate and turn out Democratic voters in record numbers in November. Please help us lead the way in turning Texas blue!
Travis County Democratic Party Chair
P.S. – Don’t forget to join Justice Henson at her campaign fundraiser on Wednesday, 5-7 p.m. at Bar Louie (123 W 6th St.).
