Happy National Voter Registration Day! Guess what!

September 24th, 2012

Andy Brown

Fellow Democrats,

If you guessed the TCDP is doing everything we can to help elect Democrats, then you guessed right! The 2012 election is just over a month away. Have you done everything you can to help?

Our field team — the largest in Travis County Democratic Party history — is working seven days a week, and they need your help. Take a moment to look at the hard-working staff we have this year, and take a moment to pick a day to come volunteer or make a donation. We can’t do it without you!

Our final fundraiser last Tuesday, The Senator Ralph Yarborough Judicial Retirement Celebration, was a big success. Thanks to all of our sponsors, volunteers and supporters who joined us to honor retiring Judge Mike Lynch.

We also had lots of volunteers show up to register voters and march in Saturday’s Austin Pride Parade. Altogether we have registered nearly 7,000 voters, including 650 this past Saturday alone. With only about a month to go until early voting begins (Oct. 22), our Coordinated Campaign has racked up impressive statistics: 50,000 doors knocked, 34,000 phone numbers dialed, 19,000 contacts made, 50,000 voter registration bags dropped and more than 500 volunteers recruited.

If you have been helping us register voters, knock on doors or phone bank, thank you! Grassroots campaigning works, and our blue city and county prove that to be true. If you have not become active, now is the time! Today is National Voter Registration Day. Come by our Campaign Headquarters at 2406 Manor Road, call 512-472-VOTE (8683) or sign up online for one of our many voter registration shifts. The October 9th deadline for registration is fast approaching, and we plan to sign up thousands more voters.

We can also use volunteers at the campaign office to perform lots of necessary tasks that might not otherwise get done — like clean up! And of course if you can’t volunteer your time, you can always write a check. Donations help us keep the lights on and the wheels turning, so please consider becoming one of our Sustaining Members for as little as $10 a month.

To celebrate what I’m certain will be a great debate performance, we are joining Burnt Orange Report, University Democrats and Texans for Obama in hosting a Presidential Debate Watch Party on October 3. We’ll get together at Cuatro’s (1004 W. 24th Street) at 7 p.m. and cheer as President Obama trounces Mitt Romney on the subjects of the economy and domestic policy. It’s going to be a good time, so I hope you will come. Please RSVP here.

As always, I am inspired by your commitment to the Democratic Party. Together, we can do this!

Sincerely,
