Mayor Castro rolling the dice on Pre-K
Mayor Julián Castro believes he has a plan to dramatically change the future of San Antonio’s workforce, and it begins with 4-year-olds.
He’ll ask the City Council on Thursday to call a sales-tax election for Nov. 6 to fund a program that would improve and expand pre-kindergarten.
Castro and others expect the Pre-K 4 SA program would better prepare children for learning throughout their school years and eventually produce a more highly educated workforce that would create and attract jobs that pay more. The program targets children who meet certain financial, language and family guidelines.
