President Obama has a special relationship with Austin, dating back to the 20,000-plus crowds at Auditorium Shores in 2007. And today he returns to our blue oasis for an afternoon event at the Austin Music Hall. We’re proud to welcome the President and hope his visit here showcases the enthusiastic support Texas Democrats have for him.
The TCDP is having our own big event this week, and it’s going to be fun — and free! Mark your calendars and plan to attend our Rompin’ Stompin’ Campaign Kickoff on Saturday, starting at 7 p.m. at our Coordinated Campaign Headquarters (2406 Manor Road).
This is going to be a big party, from 7 p.m. until the free food and drinks run out. We will have barbecue (of course), drinks and live music from Texas troubadour Bill Oliver & The Otter Space Band. All of your Democratic friends will be there, along with many of your friendly Democratic Elected Officials and Candidates. So please join us as we officially launch our 2012 Coordinated Campaign.
Recent events remind us just how important this election is going to be — and how hard we must work to re-elect President Obama and elect Democrats up and down the ballot. After the good news that the Supreme Court had ruled the Affordable Care Act is indeed constitutional, we heard Governor Perry declare that Texas would refuse to participate in health care reform and turn down billions in federal dollars for our citizens. We are waiting now to learn the fate of the vicious assault on participatory democracy known as the Texas Voter ID Law.
So much is riding on this election — from the funding of public schools to health care to women’s rights to the right to vote to the future makeup of the Supreme Court. I hope today, if you are attending President Obama’s event or standing outside and cheering or just watching it unfold on TV, that you will rededicate yourself to his re-election and join us in registering voters, canvassing and phone-banking for an exciting Coordinated Campaign!
