People’s Clinic gets federal status, more money
By Mary Ann Roser
People’s Community Clinic, a large private medical clinic in Austin for the uninsured and underserved, received notice today that it has been awarded coveted federal status that opens the door to grants and reduced prices for clinic medications.
People’s has tried for more than two years to obtain the “federally qualified health center,” or FQHC status. Other FQHCs in the Austin area include the private, nonprofit Lone Star Circle of Care based in Georgetown and the public CommUnityCare system, overseen by Central Health in Travis County.
