Happy Juneteenth! Help us register voters!
Fellow Democrats,
Happy Juneteenth everybody! I hope you plan to join us as we walk in the Juneteenth Parade. If not, there are plenty of other opportunities to celebrate the day, including all-day activities at Rosewood Park.
As part of the holiday festivities, the TCDP is hosting the Juneteenth Voter Registration Event, from 9:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. today. Meet up with Katherine Haenschen in the parking lot of Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church (northwest corner of Chicon and Pennsylvania Ave.) to pick up material and instructions.
Our Coordinated Campaign at 2406 Manor Road is humming with activity this summer, with OFA and Rep. Mark Strama’s Campaign Academy sharing space with TCDP volunteers. As always, voter registration is a major part of our grassroots efforts, and we are hard at work signing up new voters and making sure every voter is registered at their current address.
If you haven’t visited our Campaign Headquarters, please come by and take advantage of the many volunteer opportunities. We have Wednesday and Saturday voter registration shifts every week (with reminders on our Calendar!), so I encourage all of you who are deputized to join this important effort.
If you need to become deputized, you can do so on the first Tuesday of the month at the Travis County Voter Registration Office, 5501 Airport Blvd.
Travis County has developed a sterling reputation for our grassroots campaign. New Texas Democratic Party Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa gives us some well-deserved kudos in today’s “On the Record with Diane Holloway,” and I look forward to working with him. In 2010, when Republicans made dangerous inroads across the state, Travis County voters turned out in impressive numbers for Democrats, and we plan to do even better this election cycle.
As always, we need your help. Whether you make calls, canvass neighborhoods or donate, I hope we can count on you for 2012. On Juneteenth, which commemorates the day in 1865 when Texans finally heard about the Emancipation Proclamation, let’s enjoy the events and re-dedicate ourselves to bringing even more voters into our democracy!
Sincerely,
Andy Brown
Travis County Democratic Party Chair
