Great convention! Now on to the Trio of Stars!
Fellow Democrats,
Thanks to everyone who attended, volunteered and in any way contributed to making Saturday’s TCDP Convention such a big success. We had a great turnout and a great time taking care of important business. Read all about it in today’s Convention report in “On the Record with Diane Holloway.”
While Republicans continue their unprecedented assault on women, Democrats continue to support women’s rights, including equal pay and reproductive health care. In Travis County, we Democrats support women’s rights, and we also take pride in honoring some of the best and brightest among us with our Trio of Stars Brunch.
On May 19, we will have the privilege of paying tribute to the Hon. Wilhelmina Delco, Celia Israel and Carrin Patman. Previous honorees have been Willie Mae Kirk, Emma Barrientos, Ellen Richards, Bertha Means, Linda Chavez-Thompson and Bettie Naylor. I have known and admired all of these women and look forward to saluting the service of our 2012 honorees next month.
Sponsorships for the Trio of Stars Brunch are available now, and tickets will be available soon.
This is not a women’s-only event, so I hope all of you will plan to come and enjoy the brunch. The food and drink (yes, St. David’s Episcopal Church allows us to have drinks!) were exceptional last year, and I know it will be a great event again this year.
In a little over a month, we will finally get to vote in our delayed May 29th Primary, and the deadline for registering voters for the Primary is Monday (April 30). If you are a deputy registrar, now is the time to register as many Democrats as you can!
Our Democratic Club Registration Contest comes to an end on April 30, too, and we will announce the winning club at our Bring Us the Vote Party at the AFL-CIO (1106 Lavaca St.) on May 4 . If you need more information about the contest or clubs in general, check our club page on the TCDP web site for contact information.
Finally, please join us for this year’s Relay for Life on Friday, April 27 at the Texas School for the Deaf (1102 South Congress Ave). We participated as a TCDP team last year, and we will do so again this year to support the fight against cancer. All you have to do is sign up for a shift to walk or run around the school’s track and enjoy the opportunity to help others. The Relay starts at 7 p.m. on Friday and ends at 7 a.m. Saturday.
I know the TCDP often asks a lot of our loyal supporters, but we all have a lot to give. Let’s keep giving and focus on helping others, while we continue to elect great Democrats in 2012!
Sincerely,
Andy Brown
Travis County Democratic Party Chair
