Travis County Democrats are thankful for …

November 21st, 2011

Fellow Democrats,

As we enter the holiday season, Travis County Democrats have much to be thankful for, especially the beautiful blue hue of our electorate. Our abundance is great, so I thought this would be a good time to share with you just a few of my favorite reasons to be grateful.

*Among our eligible voting population, Travis County has 96.5 percent voter registration. That’s huge, and it’s very impressive. We are envied by many other counties in our state.

*We consistently and overwhelmingly vote Democratic. As a result, we are feared by Republicans, beloved by Democrats and proud of both responses.

*Not surprisingly, we also boast a roster of progressive elected officials — from city government to county, state and federal government. Democratic judiciary and legislative positions in Travis County are all forward-thinking and hard-working. How cool is that?

*The Travis County Democratic Party is open for business year-round, and we are active in the community, whether it’s an election year or not. Our doors are open, and our phones and social media outlets are always buzzing.

*We have hard-working Precinct Chairs, although we could use more of them! I thank the ones we have and urge anyone who might want to join this dedicated group to call our office (512-477-7500) for information.

*We have lots of very active Democratic clubs. No matter where you live or what your interests are, Travis County has a Democratic club that’s right for you. Be sure to read this week’s “On the Record with Diane Holloway” and see what Black Austin Democrats’ president Gerard Washington has to say about the importance of these groups.

*And finally, I am personally grateful to our many volunteers and donors, who give unselfishly of their time and treasure throughout the year. Travis County wouldn’t be a blue oasis without you!

* * *

While we’re in the holiday spirit, please mark your calendars for December 15th! Our TCDP/OFA Holiday Party will be that day at my recently reconstructed home on East 2nd Street. We will eat, drink and be very merry. We’ll have more information for you in next week’s newsletter, but I just wanted you to save that date!

Sincerely,
